After a long absence, the Park Theater is set to open back up on Friday, Nov. 6 with a concert by the local rock band Ninth Sun.
Ninth Sun started as a church band but wanted to start playing more rock music. Members include K.C. Byars – vocals and guitar, Trey Bryant – bass guitar, John Hutchings – drums, and Luke Ross – guitar.
Since Byars is the lead singer, Hutchings said, “That’s why we nominated him to do all the talking.”
The band started playing together “since the tail end of 2016” according to Byars. They perform both originals and covers at their live performances. Ninth Sun simply said it’s just fun to perform live. Hutchings said it’s like a natural high when they’re on stage.
Among scheduling and keeping the audience entertained, the pandemic has only added to the difficulties of being in a band. “Finding a place to play,” according to Ross is the hardest thing to deal with since venues shut down.
Being contacted by the Park Theater is a big win for Ninth Sun since the pandemic started and, possibly, since the band started. The Park Theater will be their biggest venue for their almost four years of performing.
Kevin Roberts, the manager of Park Theater, said he is looking forward “to give them the opportunity to perform.”
Ninth Sun will be the first Park Theater event since the middle of March. Many concerts were planned this year, but have been postponed until 2021.
Roberts said, “I miss having people in the theater.” He is ready to get open a little bit and is very hopeful Ninth Sun will be the first of many safe performances in the theater.
The Park Theater will follow all of the safety guidelines with protective shields, temperature checks, sanitation stations, social distancing, and masks encouraged.
The concert should be beneficial for both Ninth Sun and the Park Theater since both have been affected badly by the pandemic. Ninth Sun has already been contacted for more performances and recording sessions. The Park Theater also has much planned for 2021.
Tickets are available at the Park Theater website and will be sold at the door.
