Christmas is coming a little early at Morrison Elementary School next Saturday as it hosts a Christmas Village craft fair to support its Kindness Club.
The Christmas Village will be on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Morrison Elementary School’s Gym from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All the proceeds from the event will go towards helping the Morrison Kindness Club continue to spread kindness to others.
“This is the second annual Christmas Village. We decided to have the event to raise money for our school’s Kindness Club. Each year we do projects at our school and in the community to spread kindness. This year we were lucky to have five televisions donated to our school by Ben Lomand Connect and McMinnville Electric,” said Christy Farless.
Those televisions are installed throughout the school and they are able to display quotes, birthday wishes, school events, pictures of students caught being kind at school, etc. The Kindness Club has already participated in many projects such as a Blessing Box at Morrison Park. People can also bring items to the Christmas Village to donate for the Blessing Box.
“One reason we are having the Christmas Village is to pay for these projects,” said Farless. “Each month we try to do kind activities for our students, faculty, and staff. One project we were lucky to implement last year was a blessing box at Morrison Park. At the Christmas village, visitors can bring non-perishable food items to donate to the blessing box. The blessing box is meant for people to take what they need and leave what they can for the people of our community.”
The funds from this craft fair will also help the club with its goal of launching a new project.
“A future project that we would like to implement is a Kindness Café. The teachers would nominate students that were kind that month. Those students would have a special lunch in the cafeteria. We might order pizza and decorate a special table for them to eat lunch at that day. We want them to feel special and learn that being kind is important,” said Farless.
There will be multiple craft vendors and door prizes given throughout the day at the craft fair. People will also have an opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa and can choose from five different photo backgrounds. Children will also be able to write letters to Santa.
The Happy Days food truck will be there for people to purchase food.
“This food truck will be selling hamburgers, BBQ sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches, and soup. However, the desserts will be the best part. They will be selling fried Oreos and Twinkies. Also, they will have cobblers, pies, and banana pudding,” said Farless.
This event will be a great opportunity to get some early Christmas shopping done and support the Kindness Club.
“All the proceeds will go to the Kindness Club and I think this is the best part of the event,” said Farless. “This event will raise money to help us continue to spread kindness at Morrison and in the community. We started the Kindness Club because we saw the importance of students learning how to be kind. We see the value in this club. The students love helping others. It can be their classmates, teachers, the elderly, a visitor at our school, a vendor that needs help setting up their booth, or a veteran that attends our Veterans’ Day parade.”
The school is located at 500 S. Fair St. in Morrison and Christmas Village begins at 8 a.m.
