Miss Lovely pageant offers night of fun

Saturday was an evening filled with joy and jubilation at the second annual Warren County Miss Lovely pageant.

“Having fun,” was the reason third-graders Leah Myers and Elizabeth Underwood gave to why they wanted to participate. Leah said she has been busy practicing on her walks, poses and focusing on the judges. Both girls also said gleefully they would do it again.

This is the only pageant in Warren County specifically created for girls with special and unique needs. Girls from age 7-23 are invited to participate in an introduction, interview, beauty walk and talent. The Miss Lovely pageant’s mission is to raise self-confidence through skills learned in pageantry in a supportive environment.

Five age groups are available for entry for girls residing in Warren County with categories including Young Miss Lovely, 7-9, Preteen Miss Lovely, 10-12, Junior Teen Miss Lovely, 13-15, Teen Miss Lovely, 16-19, and Miss Lovely, 20-23.

Many volunteers and current title holders were on hand to help the contestants in whatever they needed during the previous night’s rehearsal and on pageant night.

The interview portion was a one-on-one conversation with judges to use their communication skills that could help them land their dream job or make a new friend. The introduction is where the girls take the microphone and share whatever they want to say to the audience. The contestants took the stage in their favorite evening wear with an escort to show their self-assurance with body language and nonverbal communication.

The talent portion was optional. This was an opportunity to show their talents on stage. Several girls sang or danced. Contestant Victoria Byars said she was most excited about the talent part where she shared her karate skills with everyone and won the Junior Teen Miss Lovely talent category.
