It’s the end of the road for a meth house.
McMinnville officials voted unanimously Tuesday night to spend $18,600 for the remediation, demolition, and disposal of a meth-contaminated residential structure located at 131 Higginbotham Road. Mayor Jimmy Haley, Vice Mayor Ben Newman and Aldermen Mike Neal, Jimmy Bonner, Ryle Chastain, Everett Brock and Steve Harvey voted to hire Hall’s Excavating and Backhoe and pay the bid amount, which was the lower of two bids received on the project.
The house has been vacant for years, used in the production of methamphetamine, and quarantined by McMinnville Police Department. Its owner allowed the structure to deteriorate into an unsafe condition. Officials, who had discussed for several years what to do about the situation, put an end to the debate with the vote to demolish.
Being a resolution, only one passing read is needed. No date has been set for the work to begin. Once the house has been removed, the property can be auctioned in an effort to recoup the city’s cost.
