What better way to cool off on a hot day, than by enjoying a nice cold treat? McMinnville Special Games did just that with its fourth annual Drive Thru Ice Cream Drive Social on Wednesday.

This year, MSG did more of an end-of-summer bash and offered free school supplies and free hygiene products along with the free ice cream for families with children and adults with special needs. McMinnville Special Games Co-Founder and President Holly McBride said there was a great turn out.

“We ran out of food boxes within about 20 minutes, which is spectacular,” said McBride. “We probably had hygiene supplies for about 75 people and we have already gone through those so we are having to pack more.”

So many people showed up, they started the drive thru a little early. There were three different ice cream choices to choose from: ice cream sandwiches, fudge bars, cookie dipped cones and freedom pops. Volunteers happily delivered the ice cream to the cars that showed up. McBride was happy they were able to serve so many people at the drive thru.

“It has been a phenomenal day. We started about 15 minutes early because they started lining up all the way down to the road. We are really tickled with the turnout. We are so excited we can help so many families with special needs children and adults,” said McBride.

The drive thru was held at the McMinnville Enrichment Center located at 25 Garfield Street.
