Warren County School Board member Helen Martin has been appointed to serve as a member of the Tennessee School Boards Association board of directors.

Martin is the first woman and second member of the Warren County School Board selected to serve on TSBA in 20 years. Jim Mansfield served prior to Martin in 1999.

The mission of the TSBA is to assist school boards in effectively governing school districts. Additionally, TSBA has helped school boards and their members through association programs, meetings and services. TSBA also provides a collective voice in matters of state legislation and public education concerns.

According to TSBA executive director Dr. Tammy Grissom, Martin will have the opportunity to be a part of an organization that helps pass laws and state board rules and regulations for the advancement and improvement of public education in Tennessee.

Director of Schools Bobby Cox praised Martin for being an outstanding member of the Warren County School Board. Cox said he has no doubt that she’ll do the same job for the TSBA.

“She truly has the best interest of children and our community in her heart,” said Cox. “We are proud she has been given this opportunity and we all support her.”

As for Martin, she says she’s deeply honored and excited for this one year term with the TSBA Board of Directors.

“I want to be an advocate for the school district to better serve the children,” said Martin. “Being on this board allows me the opportunity to be a part of an organization that helps pass laws and rules to improve public education in Tennessee.”
