A Maryville man is facing a murder charge after a physical altercation in McMinnville on Saturday morning reportedly led to the death of a co-worker.

Jared Dale Shanks, 34, has been charged with criminal homicide in the beating death of Billy Dale Pogue Jr., 51. Shanks is being held on a $1 million bond at Warren County Jail.

The incident took place at MPC, Metal Products Company, on Garfield Street. According to McMinnville Police Det. Austin Wortman, the two men traveled to Warren County from East Tennessee to remove a mobile office trailer from the site.

“They were there to remove a small trailer,” said Wortman. “They were in the process of doing that when a verbal altercation between the men turned physical. Pouge was deceased when officers arrived.”

An anonymous caller reported the incident Saturday morning around 8 a.m.

“Shanks was on scene when officers arrived and taken into custody without incident,” said Wortman.

No details are being released on the cause of death. An incident report stated, “Jared Shanks was charged with homicide due to being involved in a fight that resulted in the death of Billy Dale Pogue Jr.”

Shanks will appear in General Sessions Court at 9 a.m. on May 11.
