It’s time to buy bath towels, tablets and big-screen TVs.
The Black Friday shopping season has arrived and it’s morphed into a week-long extravaganza instead of just one mad shopping day after Thanksgiving.
According to Finder.com, 86 percent of Americans are preparing to shop during Thanksgiving-related sales that include Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Many stores are offering deep discounts that begin Wednesday.
Overall, Finder.com says the average adult will spend $397.50 during this Black Friday shopping time.
While e-commerce has emerged as a popular option, Walmart is still projected to be the top Black Friday destination. Walmart sales begin online Wednesday night at 9 p.m., with sales starting in physical stores at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.
Black Friday is certainly an event at our local JC Penney store at Three Star Mall where manager Eddie Dawes says the doors will open Thanksgiving Day at 2 p.m.
“We’ve started as early as 2 the past few years,” said Dawes. “We’ll go 2 p.m. till midnight, then we’ll reopen Black Friday at 6 a.m.”
With the store being closed for only six hours, Dawes said there was a time where he slept at JC Penney instead of going home.
“But not anymore,” he said. “I’m too old for that now.”
Among the always-popular JC Penney deals are the $2.99 bath towels, and small kitchen items that sell for $7.99 and $9.99 after mail-in rebate. Dawes stressed that’s the price after the mail-in rebate as he says customers often expect it to be the price at the register.
Scratch-off discount cards will also be distributed to JC Penney shoppers with one lucky customer getting a $500 gift card.
Bath & Body Works is also expecting a hectic day at Three Star Mall. Store manager Lori Acker says the buy-three, get-three-free sale is always a hit. She said that deal applies to all merchandise in the store.
Bath & Body Works will open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.
“That’s also the only day where you can multiple stack your coupons so you can really save,” said Acker.
