Many leaders in our community are elected officials.

But do you even know who our elected officials are, or what they do? With 24 Warren County Commission members, it can be challenging keeping up with local politics that affect your life.

With that in mind, here’s a snapshot of District 11 County Commissioner Michael Bell.

Q: Describe yourself.

A: I’m 48 years old and have lived in the Midway community all my life on the family farm.

Q: What are your hobbies/interests?

A: I guess you could say farming. I’m also a big UT Vols and Atlanta Braves fan.

Q: Share something about yourself that people might be surprised to know?

A: I work for the City of McMinnville Public Works.

Q: When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: I’ve been told I always said a farmer because my dad, grandfather and many members of my family were all farmers.

Q: What is your idea of fun?

A: Going to any kind of sporting event no matter the age of the players.

Q: Where’s your favorite place in Warren County and why?

A: Rock Island State Park. There’s lots of things to do and the beauty of the falls and the park itself is amazing. Plus, I can be there in 15 minutes.

Q: What inspired you to run for this position?

A: I was inspired by my grandfather, who was a former county commissioner and his love for politics.

Q: What is it like being a county commissioner? (Best part, most challenging part)

A: The best part is the people I have met and gotten to know on the campaign trail in my first year. The most challenging part is making the decisions you have to make knowing that you can’t make everybody happy.

Q: Do you have any specific goals to share?

A: My goal is to see all current projects completed as well as more jobs in Warren County so more families are able to remain here.

Q: What would you like the public to know about the current Board of Commissioners?

A: The current Board is a good, diverse group of people that are here to make the best decisions for Warren County. Also, knowing that we all have different views and opinions and we agree to disagree.

Q: What committees are you on?

A: I’m currently on the Highway and Bridge and the Economic and Agriculture Development committees.

Q: What is one county project you’d like to see completed during this term?

A: I’d like to see all of the ESG projects completed and the pavement of more roads.

Q: Best way to communicate with you?

A: Call or text 931-607-2931.

Q: Anything else you’d like to say?

A: I’d like to thank the citizens of the 11th district for trusting me to represent them to the best of my ability to make Warren County a better place to live and raise your children.
