City officials have approved the Stars and Stripes Fun Run and Walk for the 36th year. Pictured is the start of last years race.

The Stars and Stripes Fun Run and Walk will step into its 36th year.
The annual Fourth of July race is sponsored by the Rotary Club of McMinnville, Dr Pepper Bottling Co., First National Bank, and Security Federal Savings Bank in conjunction with the McMinnville Parks and Recreation Department.
The race, along with a pancake breakfast, traditionally kick off the city’s Fourth of July activities in downtown McMinnville.
City officials considered a request letter from event chair Jay M. Bragg to offer the race again this year.
“The Rotary Club of McMinnville respectfully requests approval by the city to conduct the 36th annual Stars and Stripes Fun Run and Walk on July 4, 2017,” said Bragg.
According to Bragg, youngsters will have their own race.
“The Rotary Club of McMinnville is the organizer and conducts the 5K Fun Run and Walk,” said Bragg. “New this year will be the inclusion of a One Mile Kids Fun Run for children age 10 and under. Participants must be registered and accompanied by a parent or guardian.”
The course for the children will follow the same one as the adults, until the intersection of West Main and Morrison streets where those participants will continue down West Main Street to the finish line, while the adults continue on the course.
Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and West Court Square with the Fun Run and Walk starting at 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and East Court Square. The race will end at approximately 9 a.m.
Officials unanimously approved the request.
