Qualifying papers are now available for Warren County’s vacant 5th District seat on the County Commission.
The Warren County Commission has accepted the resignation of Lori Judkins. A qualifying deadline of Aug. 20 at 12 p.m. has been set for anyone seeking to fill the remaining two years of her term.
“Lori, I want to say that we are going to miss you on the commission,” said Commissioner Carl E. Bouldin. “You’ve done a fine job. I think you are a fine person. I hate it that your mother is sick. We’ll be praying for you.”
Judkins replied, “Thank you so much. Thank you. I just want to let everybody know this was a very hard decision for me. I’m very emotional about it. You all are like family to me. I’ve enjoyed working with each and every one of you. You are all very professional and I think you all have Warren County at the top of your list and want what’s best.”
Commissioners must reside in the district in which they are elected to serve. Judkins is moving out of the 5th District.
Commissioners will not nominate someone to fill the position. It will be on the November ballot.
“I’d like to make the motion that we accept Lori’s resignation and leave the position open until the November election and allow the voters in the 5th District to decide who’s elected to that position,” said Commissioner Michael Bell.
That motion was approved unanimously.
