The Ballerinas of Hamilton Street celebrated spring on Sunday. Dancing around a Maypole involves holding a long-colored ribbon that’s attached to the top of a painted and decorated pole and weaving around each other, often to music.

McMinnville Housing Authority’s Ballerinas of Hamilton Street offered their 2021 spring recital this past Sunday, May 30.

“Everyone enjoyed it,” said Lisa Harvey, Hamilton Street Activity Center director. “The Ballerinas of Hamilton Street faithfully practiced each week and were ready to display their talents. You could tell they were really enjoying themselves.”

Offered during the outdoor event were free hotdog lunches, door prizes, singing by the children and a colorful Maypole dance by the tiny-toed dancers.

Living Word Fellowship Church served food and also donated funds for the ballet outfits. McMinnville Police Department Lt. Mark Mara and officer Taylor Vanbommel volunteered their time to take photos and share in the event with McMinnville Housing Authority residents.

“The recital was a joyous and festive event,” said Harvey. “The weather was wonderful. We couldn’t have picked a better day for it. I think fun was had by all. Now, to get ready for our second recital of the year.”

The spring recital is one of two presentations per year for the Hamilton Street Activity Center, the other being Hark at the Park, a Christmas concert and fundraiser at Park Theater.
