A local man can’t complain about the representation he received from the Public Defender’s Office.
Nigel Lance Hopkins was handed a four-year sentence last week in Circuit Court by Judge Bart Stanley with only four of those days to be served in jail on two weekend shifts. Hopkins was placed in the Adult Recovery Court program and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.
Hopkins had two of his eight charges dismissed as part of his plea agreement and his charge of third-offense DUI was reduced to first-offense DUI.
Hopkins also entered pleas to charges of simple possession of a schedule II substance, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, simple possession of marijuana, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, that being a vehicle, and evading arrest with risk of death or injury to others.
In addition to four days in jail, Hopkins had his driver’s license revoked for one year and he must undergo an alcohol and drug assessment.
