Rachael Graves is set to take over as Hickory Creek Elementary principal starting June 1.
After Hickory Creek’s current principal Mike Mansfield was announced to become the school system’s director of continuous improvement, the position was posted and 11 educators applied. Four were granted interviews before deciding on Graves, the principal at Irving College for the past six years.
In an interesting tidbit, Graves was Mansfield’s replacement as principal of Irving College when he moved to Hickory Creek six years ago. Now Graves is taking his spot once more at Hickory Creek.
Director of Schools Grant Swallows said he asked for, and received, feedback from Hickory Creek staff members on the type of principal they would like to have. Swallows said Graves is the person to take the lead.
“After assessing the direction we needed to go, it was obvious that Mrs. Graves is the person to lead HCES in the future,” Swallows said. “I look forward to watching her and the staff at Hickory Creek work together for the good of all the students at the school.”
Both principals are set to finish out the school year and will assume their new positions June 1.
