Gilley Pool will be shifting to Saturdays only.
McMinnville’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen was provided an update on the pool and opted to make no changes, but one will take place with the opening of Warren County Schools.
“Up until Aug. 9, we will remain normal hours,” said McMinnville Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord. “After the 9th, we will shift to Saturdays only. We will be open on Saturday until Labor Day. We will still have programs.”
The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 12.
“We have continued to make money,” said McCord. “We have been sending guards home. We’ve also moved part-time employees that are not working at the mall to run the gates so we are not having to pay that expense. The last time we reported was July 14. I think there was only one day when we lost money and that was July 23.”
The city has closed its fitness facility and classes at Three Star Mall due to the pandemic. Those employees have been able to transition to the pool.
Alderman Everett Brock asked if any reported cases of COVID-19 have been linked to the pool.
“I have not heard anything. Nothing reported,” said McCord.
Brock added, “No employees?”
“We have had a few, but that’s because they went off on vacation to other states,” said McCord.
Out-of-town vacations are believed to be a reason why Warren County’s confirmed number of COVID cases had reached 339 on Wednesday, according to the Tennessee Department of Health. Of those cases, 169 have been declared recovered.
Labor Day is Sept. 7.
