A couple charged with beating up an elderly man in front of his grandchildren at a local ballpark has been bound to the grand jury,David A. Beard and Maranda Beard were bound to the grand jury following a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke.They are charged with assaulting an elderly man near Dottie West Field during a confrontation between Mrs. Beard and the victim, who had custody of her children (his grandchildren). She is charged with domestic assault for allegedly hitting the man while her husband is charged with felony assault for reportedly choking him.In other court action:Joshua Phillips was given an 11-month, 29-day sentence for resisting arrest, evading arrest and criminal impersonation.Jeremiah McCormick was ordered to serve 30 days of an 11-29 sentence and pay $750 plus costs for resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.Leonel Garcia was ordered to serve 30 days of an 11-29 sentence and pay $750 plus costs for possession of meth.Gregory A. Smith was bound to the grand jury on charges of resisting arrest, theft, evading arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.James Johnson was directed to serve 10 days of an 11-29 sentence and pay $150 plus costs for possession of drug paraphernalia.Matthew Tucker was directed to serve five days of an 11-29 sentence and undergo batterer intervention for preventing 911 calls and domestic assault.Jason R. Nunley was instructed to serve five days of an 11-29 sentence and must pay $250 plus costs for possession of marijuana.Cody Bond was granted an 11-29 judicial diversion after being released on time-served for possession of marijuana.Nathan Harmon was placed on probation for an 11-29 term and was warned to stay out of Walmart for shoplifting.James Fuller was bound to the grand jury on the charge of theft.Samuel Walker was given an 11-29 probationary sentence and must perform 24 hours public service work and was warned to stay out of Walmart for shoplifting.Jessica L. Wilson was bound to the grand jury on charges of theft and aggravated burglary.Taylor Holton was placed on probation for an 11-29 period for assault.Abbi Reyes must pay $10 plus costs for leaving the scene of an accident.Tara Barks was ordered to serve 70 days of an 11-29 sentence for failure to appear in court and violation of probation.Amanda Crook must serve the balance of her sentence for violation of probation. She was also bound to the grand jury on the charge of burglary and fraudulent use of a credit card.Matthew T. Cantrell must serve 30 days for violation of probation.Mark D. Alley must serve 10 days for violation of community supervision.
