'Funniest Man in America' returning to Park Theater

Tickets are still available for comedian James Gregory who is performing next Friday night at Park Theater.

He was an adult before he realized gravy isn’t a beverage.

He can conduct an appropriate funeral with embalming fluid and potato salad.

He’s James Gregory, touted as the Funniest Man in America, and he’ll be performing Friday, Nov. 5, at Park Theater at 7 p.m.

“He’s been here twice, and both times were sold-out shows,” said Park Theater manager Kevin Roberts, who confirmed that tickets are still available for next week’s show.

Gregory was born in Lithonia, Ga., and worked as a salesman until he was 36. At that time, he began introducing performers at The Punch Line comedy club in Atlanta. His first feature act at the club was on Feb. 17, 1982.

“Tuesday night was amateur night, which was basically an open mike night,” said Gregory. “So I would go with a group of my friends to hear the comedy and my friends, thinking I was a funny guy, dared me to go up there. To make a long story short, that’s how I got my start, there on Tuesdays during amateur night.”

The rest, as they say, is history. Gregory’s career has blossomed into a full-time gig that’s spanned nearly 40 years. He typically travels 46 weeks a year and has performed at venues across the country.

Main floor tickets are $50 for the first four rows (Rows A –D). The remaining main floor seats (Rows E – S), as well as balcony seating, are $40.
