Fourth festivities announced

After a one-year absence, the patriotic Yankee Doodle Children’s Parade is scheduled to return to downtown McMinnville on Saturday, July 3.

The city of McMinnville is gearing up for a festive Fourth of July weekend. It will kick off with a bang on the evening of Friday, July 2.

“Fourth of July is on a Sunday this year,” said McMinnville Parks and Recreation Department director Scott McCord. “We will be having our festivities on July 3, which is Saturday. Dr Pepper has notified me that it will be offering the fireworks display on July 2.”

The fireworks display is generously provided every year by Dr Pepper Bottling Company owner Doug Milner, while Parks and Recreation event coordinator Michael Benusches is spearheading Saturday festivities.

“We are really excited for the return of downtown activities for the Fourth of July,” said Benusches. “Currently, we are working on scheduling. Noon Rotary will be offering its Stars and Stripes Fun Run. That’s back. Mister and Miss Stars and Stripes will be at Park Theater. We will be having vendor booths downtown on Court Square. If anyone would like to offer a booth, it’s free. Give me call.”

Also returning are two traditional favorites – the Yankee Doodle Children’s Parade organized by Junior Auxiliary of McMinnville, and First United Methodist Church’s pancake breakfast,

A complete lineup will be released when finalized.
