There will be tables full of sandwiches, as well as soup and clothing, available this Saturday at Central Church of Christs annual Food and Raiment Day.
One of Warren County’s longest-running community meals, Food and Raiment Day at Central Church of Christ, returns Saturday, offering free soup, sandwiches and desserts to anyone who shows up from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.Central’s clothing center will also be in operation during the same hours, providing garments for all ages, along with shoes, boots and winter coats. The hearty soup meal will served in the fellowship hall, under the church’s main auditorium, while the clothing giveaway will be in Central’s Benevolence Annex immediately east of the auditorium.“We know from the gospels that Jesus spent much of his earthly ministry in serving the physical needs of everyday people,” Central elder Ken Smith said. “Most of those people were working sun-up to sun-down, but barely making ends meet.“Others suffered from chronic disabilities and illness that kept them from holding a job, and they were left to the mercy of people who might offer them a few small coins—in other words, compassionate and caring people who didn’t have much themselves but who were willing to share what little they did have,” he continued.“We hope and pray we are following Christ’s example in trying to meet the human needs of people 2,000 years later,” Smith said. “We also want to help our neighbors with their eternal needs, the spiritual food and healing that only Jesus Christ can provide.
