The most famous bomber of World War II is coming to Chattanooga and flights are available. The Boeing B-17 was a flying fortress. More than 12,000 were produced, but less than 12 are still flightworthy. On display will be Madras Maiden celebrating 72 years since the end of World War II.
The Liberty Foundation’s 2017 Salute to Veterans tour is coming to the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport. Public flights and tours will be available Sept. 30 to Oct. 1.On display will be the famous Boeing B-17 “Madras Maiden” celebrating 72 years since the end of WWII. The Boeing B-17 is by far the most famous bomber of World War II. In 1943, the Boeing Aircraft Company began construction of a four-engine heavy bomber. Known as the Model-299, the first flight was achieved on July 28, 1935.
