Package deliveries were interrupted when a two-vehicle crash involved a FedEx truck.

According to state trooper Ben Cannon, FedEx driver Michael Dustin Ragland, 34, was traveling outbound on Sparta Highway on Saturday when a vehicle pulled into his path in the area of the Rock Island Dollar General at approximately 5:50 p.m.

“The FedEx truck was traveling east on Highway 70S,” said Cannon. “A maroon Taurus pulled in front of the FedEx truck at the intersection of C.O. Hillis Road and Rock Island Road.”

Michael William Adams, 22, was driving the Taurus and said he was blinded by the setting sun.

“The driver of the Taurus stated the sun was in his eyes and he did not see the truck,” said Cannon. “He was coming from Rock Island Road and crossing the highway to C.O. Hillis Road.”

The two collided in the eastbound, outside lane. While the FedEx truck veered off the roadway to the right and struck an embankment, the Taurus spun and came to rest in the roadway.

Ragland reported no injuries at the scene. Adams was transported to Ascension Saint Thomas River Park by Warren County EMS for treatment of a broken ankle.

Adams was cited for failure to yield, no insurance, and expired registration.
