A fatal fire occurred in Rock Island just outside Warren County at approximately 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.
The Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department, along with two other Van Buren County fire departments, responded to reports of a home exploding at 1500 Rogers Road. A Warren County fire department was called to provide mutual aid.
“The report we received was of an explosion and the home was 50 percent involved,” said Cedar Grove Chief Kevin Bivins. “Spencer’s and Piney’s departments are automatically called out with us. We were able knock the fire down, but not put it out completely. Rock Island-Campaign’s department was called for assistance. We were able to get the fire under control.”
Initially, the trailer was believed to be unoccupied.
“There was no vehicle in the driveway,” said Bivins. “We didn’t think anyone was home. Sadly, a deceased female was found in the structure. That’s all I can tell you at this time.”
The property is owned by James Turner, according to the Van Buren County Property Accessor’s Office.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Tennessee Fire Marshal and Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department.
