McMinnville Parks and Recreation is holding Movies in the Park this Friday, July 9 at 8:15 p.m. at Milner Recreation Center. The movie will be shown on Cat Walker Field.

Movies in the Park is a free, outdoor experience where the community can come together and enjoy watching a movie.

On Friday, the 1993 PG-13 movie “The Sandlot” will be played.

“The Sandlot” is about a young boy named Scotty Smalls who moves into a new neighborhood and tries to learn baseball, despite not being good at it. A local baseball prodigy takes Smalls under his wing and he soon becomes friends with a local baseball group. They get involved in many adventures including dealing with a rival baseball team and facing off against a ball-eating dog called The Beast.

Recreation program coordinator for McMinnville Parks and Recreation Michael Benusches said when they held this event last month they showed “Lilo and Stitch” and there was a crowd of around 80 people.

“It was really well received by the community, “said Benusches.

Free admission and concessions are provided by Smartt Assembly of God. Visitors are suggested to bring chairs and blankets.

Cat Walker Field is located next to the Jungle Jym, and weather permitting, “The Sandlot” will start at 8:15 p.m.
