Early voting ended Thursday for the May 3 primary election.
Polls will be open at precincts around the county Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The big decision on the ballot is who gets the Republican nomination for County Executive between Joseph Stotts and Terry Bell.
According to election administrator Susie Davenport, there wasn’t a mad dash of voters during early voting.
“Obviously this is a very slow election,” said Davenport. “Our total was 2,395, which sounds horribly low and it is. We have 23,000 registered voters in Warren County. It’s on par with the primaries four years ago. We had a few more then compared to now.”
Two additional early voting locations were provided this year. Called satellite early voting centers, those were located at Centertown CIC and Morrison Ruritan.
Numbers were down for the satellite centers because people’s antennas weren’t up.
“Voting at the satellites was very, very low,” said Davenport. “I had many people tell me ‘I forgot I could vote in Centertown’ and ‘I forgot I could vote in Morrison.’ I think people need time to get more familiar with them. I believe they will. We’re definitely going to offer them in the next two election cycles. Then, we will decide if offering those will continue.”
The Centertown and Morrison sites were open six days, from April 22 thru April 28, excluding Sunday – a total of 48 hours for poll workers. Centertown received 87 votes, while Morrison received 109 votes.
