Eighth car wreck fatality
Woman dies at dangerous intersection in Rock Island
Lisa Hobbs photos-The Highway Patrol says Delores Sain was driving this minivan when it pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle, killing her passenger, Leoma Hoover.

One person was killed and two injured Wednesday morning when a motorist pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle in Rock Island in a near repeat of a crash at the hazardous intersection that claimed two lives earlier this year.
The fatally injured woman, Leoma Hoover, 85, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the passenger in a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by Delores Sain, 85.
Sain was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga with serious injuries.
The wreck marks the eighth fatality in Warren County this year, already making 2017 one of the deadliest years in recent history.
According to Highway Patrolman Kyle Herren, Sain was traveling eastbound (away from McMinnville) on Sparta Highway when she slowed to turn onto Rock Island Road and pulled into the path of an oncoming westbound 2005 Jeep driven by Courtney Mabe, 19, of Quebeck. She was taken to Saint Thomas River Park Hospital for treatment.
The Sain vehicle was struck in the passenger side by the Jeep, knocking it onto the shoulder while the Jeep came to rest in the road.
The crash occurred around 11:15 a.m.
The crash was similar to a wreck at the same intersection that claimed two lives in January. That wreck involved the same scenario where a motorist failed to yield and, on that occasion, pulled in front of a tractor trailer.
“It is identical to the semi crash, right over the marks where I’d worked in January,” Herren said.
