A couple faces child neglect charges following a drug raid on their home during which lawmen found a cache of methamphetamine. The couple, Eric Dwayne Conatser and Karen Sue Conatser are charged with child neglect, possession of meth with intent to sell or deliver and drug paraphernalia. They will face hearing before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke on Oct. 25.Their charges come after a daylight raid on their Laws Road home during which investigators found evidence the couple was dealing drugs.“A search of their residence and property revealed approximately three ounces of meth packaged in several small plastic baggies,” said Sheriff’s Investigator Jody Cavanaugh, noting they also found digital scales and other drug paraphernalia.Officers also found a large amount of cash on the premises. The cash, including $752 allegedly belonging to Eric Conatser and $622 belonging to Karen Conatser, totaling $1,374 was ordered forfeited by Judge Locke during a forfeiture hearing.“The cash was seized due to the narcotics violation,” Cavanaugh said, alleging the money was the product of illegal acts by the couple. The child neglect charges were lodged because Karen Conatser’s two teen-age children were living at the residence while the alleged illegal acts were going on.“They were living at the residence and subject to the drug-related environment,” Cavanaugh said.
