The circumstances surrounding a vehicle crash on Friday are still under investigation, but the Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed the driver is deceased.

Stanley Delong, 56, of McMinnville was the driver in the single-vehicle crash. Delong was driving a white pickup inbound on Sparta Highway and left the roadway in the area of Lee’s Collision Center and Prater’s Auto Repair.

“Mr. Delong was traveling westbound on US 70,” said trooper Sawyer Graham. “He was driving a 2010 F-150 white four door. Near 3556 Sparta Highway, he ran off the road on the right side.”

After leaving the roadway, the truck smashed through a road sign. It traveled up a grassy embankment and struck the auto repair business sign and a wooden post.

“It then struck a Calvary Baptist Church van parked on the auto repair lot,” said Graham. “That’s where it came to final rest.”

Delong’s condition was reported as unconscious at the scene. He was later pronounced deceased. Witnesses say the pickup brakes were never used and that Mr. Delong may have suffered a medical issue that caused the wreck.

“An investigation is pending,” said Graham.

State trooper Tony Myers added, “We can’t confirm any medical condition because an investigation is pending. The family has been notified.”

The crash occurred Friday at approximately 4:30 p.m.
