Driver back in jail after fatal crash

Ramiro R. Ibarra could face serving the balance of his 12-year sentence.
A sweetheart plea deal for a drunk driver who killed a teenage girl may go by the wayside after he has reportedly failed to hold up his end of the bargain. The man, Ramiro R. Ibarra, now 22, could face serving the balance of his 12-year sentence behind bars when he appears before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley on Jan. 11 to answer to four violations of his probation – violations that include his admitted use of meth.Prosecutors say Ibarra, then 19, had been huffing fumes and was stoned when he got behind the wheel of a Chevy Blazer and went off-roading in a field off Vervilla Road with four passengers in his vehicle including Ashlyn Barnes, 17. The drunk driver slammed into a tree during his four-wheeling in the dark field, the impact killing Barnes and critically injuring his other passengers. Ibarra’s claim that he accidentally ran off the road fell apart after investigators pointed out he had traveled over a quarter-mile through the field after running through a fence but then had navigated the small entrance into the back field where the fatal wreck happened on May 9, 2013.
