There will be three showings of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” this weekend at Park Theater. Pictured, in shopping cart, are Caroline McGee, left, and Lily Conover. Standing, from left, are Blaine Heath, Emma Coppinger, Lily Gillespie and B’iara McKinley.

Allowing a group of disheveled children to participate in a Christmas pageant is sure to ruin the annual tradition. At least that was the initial reaction.

The finished product turns out much differently and that’s the story behind “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” The musical is set for three showings this weekend at the Park Theater – Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee also on Saturday.

“It’s the story of some really neglected, outcast kids,” said Jenny Nafrada, who stars in the play and is also musical director. “Everyone thinks it’s going to be the worst pageant ever because these children are included. Instead, they give their rendition of the nativity story and it is wonderful.”

It’s the final production of the year for Dream Reality Group and director Logan Taylor. Four shows are planned for the 2020 lineup.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is a kids-based musical with a majority of the cast under age 14. Taylor says it makes for a charming play just in time for the holidays.

“It’s super cute and a great way to start the season,” he said, noting the show is just over an hour long with no intermission.

Tickets are available on the Park Theater website or they can be purchased at the door.
