Downtown McMinnville will be having its monthly summer party with its Second Saturday shopping extravaganza July 10.

Second Saturday is an event where businesses stay open later while live music is performed downtown.

“Last time it was just packed with people,” said Second Saturday volunteer Mary Don Bixby.

One of the big components of this event is the live music. This month, there are three performers lined up: Steve Harvey, Wayne Wolford and Thomas Sceger.

“I would love to invite everyone to come. It’s so much fun,” said Bixby.

Businesses benefit from this summer event. Linen and Grace Boutique is one shop that had a lot of success during the previous Second Saturday in June.

“It always goes great for us,” said owner Vicki Benedict.

The boutique usually closes at 4 p.m. on Saturdays, but like the other participating shops and vendors, its hours will be extended for the event.

“People really come out for it. It was busier than I had anticipated,” said Benedict.

Some of the shops participating include: Collins River BBQ, Evelyn Taylor Avenue, Wink Skincare Studio, Topz Frozen Yogurt and Metro Deli, Linen and Grace Boutique, and Begonias Restaurant.

Evelyn Taylor Avenue manager Jackie Brown says her store usually has refreshments and karaoke to keep things fun on her end of downtown.

“We have a blast,” said Brown.

This event happens every second Saturday from June to August and starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.
