Distracted driving is suspected in a rear-end collision Friday.

“The driver failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the lead vehicle, which had stopped at the light on New Smithville Highway,” said McMinnville patrol officer Chris Summers.

Traveling inbound and waiting at the intersection in front of McDonalds was a 2013 white Chevy Traverse driven by Ryan Martin, 40. He was struck from behind by a black 2001 F-150 driven by Jennifer Decourcy, 35.

The impact crushed the front of the Ford and forced for Chevy forward.

“It looked like she tried to stop about 15 feet before, but that was too late,” said Summers. “I did ask how it happened and she stated that she didn’t know. It was probably distracted driving.”

Decourcy was transported to Ascension Saint Thomas River Park Hospital by Warren County EMS, while Martin self-transported.

“I’m unsure of her injuries,” said Summers. “He was complaining about injuries to his back. His vehicle was still drivable, so

he drove himself to the hospital.”

Decourcy was cited for failure to exercise due care.

The Friday crash occurred around 10 a.m.
