Director sings about schools being closed

Bobby Cox is shown in the video trying to make his way up steps at WCMS. Schools are closed Friday.

A new video recording star has emerged in Warren County.

Director of Schools Bobby Cox has gained Facebook acclaim with the release of a music video announcing Warren County Schools would be closed on Thursday.

In the video, which was posted to the Facebook page of Warren County Schools, Cox sings a song to the tune of “Let It Snow.”

“We thought it was something the kids might enjoy and it would lighten the mood a little bit,” said Cox.

“Obviously, singing isn’t my forte. This was a little bit out of my comfort zone, but hopefully the kids got a kick out of it.”

The video begins with Cox scraping snow off the windshield of a school bus and singing:

“The weather outside is frightful
And the roads are not delightful
The buses they just can’t roll
Because it snowed, yes it snowed, yes it snowed.”

The video includes scenes where Cox tries to push a school bus from behind and then struggles to climb icy stairs at WCMS. Cox released a second video Thursday with some help from a galaxy far, far away.

The idea of offbeat school closing videos is gaining popularity. Dan Lawson, the superintendent of Tullahoma City Schools, is one who has posted online videos where he announces the closing of school in song.

In a school district located outside Tennessee in Pontotoc County, the superintendent posted an online video where he raps to announce the closing of schools.
