Deadly crash results in felony charge

Gregory L. Lima has been indicted on a reckless endangerment charge for this fatal crash.
A driver has been bound to the grand jury on a reckless endangerment charge after he caused a wreck that cost his friend’s life.The driver, Gregory L. Lima, 29, was bound by General Sessions Judge Bill Locke on the charge of felony reckless endangerment, for which he could face one to two years in prison, failure to yield, and driving without a license.His charges come for a crash at the intersection of Old Smithville Highway and Smithville Highway in August 2014.“He was traveling too fast on Old Smithville Road to stop for the stop sign and slid out in front of an oncoming vehicle,” said Highway Patrolman Kyle Herren in his felony warrant against the Van Buren County man.The wreck caused the death of passenger, Leon Carter, 50, also of Van Buren County, and left Lima and backseat passenger Justin Ryan Redmore, 23, of McMinnville with serious injuries. The driver of the utility truck he pulled in front of and his passenger were taken for treatment of noncritical injuries.According to Trooper Herrin, Lima was the driver of a Saturn occupied by the three men. They were heading to work.
