A day at the park

Sue Merritt watched while her dog Dolly frolicked around McMinnville Dog Park on Tuesday afternoon.

“I bring her down here just about every day,” said Sue. “I got Dolly from Warren County Animal Control and I’m so happy with her. She has a little bit of everything in her.”

Sue enjoys photography and has entered ribbon-winning pictures at the fair. She’s taken pictures of just about everything, from a hummingbird in flight, to kids jumping off the railroad tracks and into the water at Pepper Branch Park.

“I caught them in mid-air,” said Sue proudly.

With sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s, it was a busy day across the road at Pepper Branch Park where 6-year-old Kylie Roberts caught a crawdaddy with a net. Kylie said she enjoys splashing around the Barren Fork River and was waiting for one of her friends to arrive.

At the Pepper Branch climbing wall, friends Chris Tubb and Ryan Bell were tackling the challenge of climbing up the side of the 10-foot wall. They grabbed lunch under the gazebo and were soaking in the warm afternoon sunshine.

With temperatures soaring well over 100 degrees in parts of the country, Warren County has enjoyed relatively mild July weather. The AccuWeather forecast calls for a high temperature of 84 degrees on Wednesday with heavy humidity making it feel about 10 degrees hotter. There’s a chance of thunderstorms today.
