The Covenant Academy seniors are now considered alumni as the Lions walked across the stage to graduate. The commencement was held Friday night with anticipation high among all the graduates.

The night was filled with pride and excitement as the 14 graduates took the stage. Ethan Hillis and Madisen Madewell were presented with the John W. High Memorial Award for their citizenship and scholastic achievements. They were presented this award by Rocky Davenport.

Along with awards and speeches, four of the senior girls, Madewell, Abbegail Martin, Brandy Pennington and Sarah Sharpe, together sang a special rendition of the Rascal Flatts hit “How They Remember You.” The quartet performed for their class as a final send-off as the four have sung together in the past.

Valedictorian Terry Hines II spoke and expressed gratitude to each of his teachers for the lessons he learned over the years, and he was most thankful for the strengthening of his faith that was consistently taught. Hines addressed his parents telling his father how much he tries to be like him and said to his mother, “Thank you for lighting the fire within the heart of the younger me. Your lesson is now understood.”

The night ended with graduates receiving their diplomas in front of their families and friends.
