Commissioners discuss revising IDB term limits

County Commissioners discussed potentially changing the Industrial Development Board member’s term limits in the future.

At the county Economic and Agricultural Development Tuesday night, commissioners discussed a new resolution that would give the county more of a say in IDB projects. During the discussion, Commissioner Charles Dotson asked why there were not any commissioners serving on the IDB.

“You are talking about getting involved, why is there not any County Commissioners on the IDB board?” asked Dotson.

“When their terms come up we will be the ones who put people on there,” said Commissioner Carl D. Bouldin.

The county appoints five members and the city appoints five members.

“Each one of the IDB serves longer terms than you do,” said County Executive Terry Bell.

“They serve a six-year term so the ones we put on last year could very well still be on there when we are gone. It really should probably be cut to a three-year term,” said Bouldin.

“Yeah, they just wait us out,” added Dotson.

“Right, they can if you don’t get reelected,” said Bouldin.

A decision on the IDB term limits was not decided at this meeting.
