The recreational delay is almost over.
Bids are being accepted for renovation and expansion of McMinnville Civic Center. Actual cost of the project will be known Thursday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m.
“We gave it two weeks, rather than one,” said McMinnville Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord. “We hope giving two weeks gives a better opportunity for pricing on contractors.”
McMinnville officials are bracing for sticker shock, given the rising cost for material and labor.
“I hope I’m wrong, but I do believe there will be sticker shock when the bids come back in,” said Alderman Everett Brock, who chairs the city’s Finance Committee.
Warren County Jail expansion was estimated at $6.5 million. The actual cost came in at $8.3 million.
Estimated cost for the Civic Center project from Hart, Freeland Roberts Design was $6.1 million. It includes $3.5 million to renovate the existing Civic Center, $751,340 for a south addition, and $1.8 million for an east addition.
Brock presented more than one cost estimate for financing the project. Brock said a $6 million Civic Center project would be an annual payment of approximately $400,000 for the next 20 years and a $9 million project would be an annual payment of $600,000.
