City offers live Christmas tree disposal

Not sure what to do with your live Christmas tree now that the holidays are over? The City of McMinnville wants to help you recycle it.

McMinnville Public Works will have a Christmas tree drop off this week and next week. They will be picking up live Christmas trees in the Milner Recreation Center parking lot near Clark Blvd. The area to drop off trees will be marked.

The trees must be live, not artificial. All lights and decorations should be removed before dropping the tree off. If anyone has any questions, McMinnville Public Works can be contacted at (931) 473-2553.

The National Christmas Tree Association recommends recycling your live tree instead of throwing it away.

The tree can be used for several other purposes. Some trees are turned into mulch and used in community playgrounds and parks.

Other trees are added to lakes and used as habitats. Recycling a live tree removes the expensive process of adding to landfills.
