Child seat check taking place today

Many great items can be found at yard sales, but a car seat for your child should not be one of them.

“Please resist the temptation to save money by purchasing a child seat at a yard sale because the history of the seat is unknown,” said McMinnville Police Department Lt. Mark Mara. “It may be expired or have a recall that has not been fixed.”

With the end of the school year this week, the Police Department is offering another child passenger seat inspection. It will be held at Foodland Plus this Wednesday, May 23, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Summer is a time when parents seek help in caring for their school-aged children. Mara says moms and dads need to make sure their children are being safely transported.

“When making arrangements to have someone else transport your children, those people need to have their cars and child seats checked,” said Mara.

Mara said even booster seats can be incorrectly installed, recalled, or expired.

Wednesday’s child passenger seat inspection is an awareness and education effort. No citations will be written.
