Lana Whitlock is presented with the 2021 Community Service Award by Jason Hillis.

Charles Bogle received the Book of Golden Deeds 2021 by the McMinnville Evening Exchange Club for his dedication to the city of McMinnville and his volunteer efforts.

This presentation may seem to have arrived quickly since Bobby Cox received the Book of Golden Deeds for 2020 in February of this year. This award was presented alongside other in-club recognitions and the Community Service Award.

Evening Exchange Club director Mary Jane Bell presented the honor to Bogle and spoke of the reasons why he is receiving this esteemed honor.

“He is very patriotic and appreciates all veterans who have sacrificed for this great country we live in today,” Bell said. “The license plate on his truck reads ‘Honorably Discharged.’ He has spoken to schools when they have their Veterans Day programs.”

Bogle has also been a member of numerous organizations in Warren County, including McMinnville Lions Club, McMinnville Board of Mayor and Alderman, McMinnville Planning Commission and more. Bogle is also an elder at Central Church of Christ and works with the jail ministry.

Bogle teared up accepting his award and gave credit to his wife of 58 years.

Lana Whitlock received the other highest award that night, receiving the Community Service Award. Jason Hillis presented the award and praised Whitlock for her efforts not only getting the McMinnville-Warren County Senior Center where it is now, but helping to organize countywide vaccine clinics.

Hillis said, “Working side by side, Lana along with Chad and Emily Graves and many of their staff and volunteers conducted 14 remote COVID vaccine clinics in every corner of the county.”

With the vaccine efforts and organizing a team to deliver food to seniors during the pandemic, Whitlock was a clear choice for the award. Whitlock joined the Senior Center as director in 2019 and despite the worldwide pandemic, she managed to not only keep the program going but keep it growing. Whitlock was emotional receiving the award as she wasn’t aware she was receiving it prior to the meeting.

Along with two of the top awards of the Evening Exchange Club, some members were presented awards for reaching membership milestones with Leda Roberts reaching 30 years as a member, Bill Brock reaching 40, and Jimmy Priestley reaching 45. Lester Cowell received the Perfect Attendance award after 48 years in the club.

The McMinnville Evening Exchange Club held its award ceremony Tuesday with a meal prior to the recognitions and concluded with Neva England being sworn in as the new president.
