Changes coming to fair
New carnival company to bring extra days of rides

Pictured above are carnival rides provided by Kissel Entertainment. The Fair Board has made a switch to Crescent City Amusement of Louisiana for its rides and the carnival will be extended to nine days.

The Warren County A&L Fair is getting so close, we can almost taste the cotton candy. This year there are some changes coming to the fair.

Fair Board president Reagan Kelsey is looking forward to this year’s fair and all the new changes. One big change is a new carnival. Instead of Kissel Entertainment, Crescent City Amusement of Louisiana is coming and is running all nine days.

“We have a new carnival that is going to run the entire nine days of the fair,” said Kelsey. “That is different because historically the carnival starts on Monday. This year it is starting on the first Friday and it will run the entire nine days. This is only the third carnival we’ve had in our existence. It is a little bit of a big deal for us, but we are excited to see them come and they are excited to come.”

Kelsey says the quality of the carnival is important to him and the Fair Board and he said the rides are similar to what they’ve had in the past. Safety is a No. 1 priority for Kelsey and he says this carnival will have the same level of quality fair-goers have come to expect.

“They are a top-notch outfit or they wouldn’t be here,” said Kelsey.

Country music star David Lee Murphy will be performing at the fair. The free concert will be on Thursday, Sept. 15.

Highland Rim CrossFit will be sponsoring a Fittest of the Fair competition this year. A toy farm display consisting of scale model little farms will also be at this year’s fair.

Another change is the day of the baby show. The baby show was moved from Wednesday to Sunday in order to get the pageants done in the first five days and better accommodate those who have to work during the week.

Kelsey said Tunnels to Towers will potentially be having a stair climb this year.

Kelsey is hoping everyone will come to the fair and have a great time.

Kelsey said, “I would just like for everyone to come out and enjoy themselves. This is a really unique event in the state of Tennessee, actually in the country. There are not many free fairs left. Nobody in the state is doing what we do and I think the people of Warren County ought to take advantage of that and come out, see friends and family, and have a good time."

Fair Board members and volunteers have been working hard behind the scenes to get things ready and Kelsey is proud of the work they do for the fair.

“I am pretty proud of our board and the volunteers that we have for doing what they do with what we have. I think it is incredible to do this year in and year out,” said Kelsey.

Fair books are expected to be ready in the middle of August. Kelsey said they just sent them off to be printed and that they are usually ready about a month before the fair. Our beloved fair is Sept. 9-17.
