Deputies tased a drunk driver after he reached for a gun and threatened to “blow a hole” through them after he was stopped by private citizens on Manchester High-way.The alleged drunk driver, Charles A. Buckner Jr., 74, is charged with aggravated assault and DUI for the incident which saw deputies draw down on him as he reached for a weapon.“He said he was going to blow a hole through my (expletives deleted) and reached for the passenger seat where he had a handgun,” reported deputy Lynn Cannon, noting he then pulled his sidearm and held the suspect at gunpoint, preventing him from grabbing the gun.Cannon and other deputies had to taser the suspect to get him out of his truck and take him into custody.Cannon said Buckner was actually stopped by private citizens who had seen him driving recklessly and on the wrong side of Manchester High-way.“When I arrived there were several civilians at the scene trying to talk the driver out of the truck,” Cannon recalled, noting the truck was stopped in the wrong lane of traffic and surrounded by other motorists who had brought him to a halt. “Buckner was belligerent and threatened to shoot some of the civilians.”Cannon said he was able to distract Buckner long enough to grab the keys out of the ignition of his 1996 Toyota.
