A man who reportedly hit his wife and threatened her with a knife during a trip to drop off a trailer in Manchester has been ordered to serve one year in jail.

Joseph Brummett Jr., 52, has been ordered to serve 11 months and 29 days in jail of a five-year sentence after entering guilty pleas to reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, domestic assault, and aggravated assault.

Brummett faced the charges for an incident in May that included his wife being thrown from the truck and hitting the roadway, according to the arrest warrant, leaving her with road rash.

Warren County Sheriff’s Department deputies came in contact with the victim on Hickenbottom Road in the Viola area while responding to a 911 call from a woman who claimed her husband had tried to kill her.

The victim stated Brummett started to yell and hit her inside the truck. “She had gotten out of the vehicle and was pulled back in by the hair of the head and he displayed a knife at her,” the warrant says. “A short time later, the truck hit a culvert and the passenger-side door was opened and (the victim) was thrown out of the vehicle hitting the roadway where she ran to a residence. Mr. Joseph Brummett Jr. then tried to hit her while she was out of the vehicle.”

The victim told officers she had asked a number of times to be let out of the truck, but Brummett refused to stop to let her out, reportedly holding her against her will.
