Dancing is a passion and for Warren County High School senior Leivia Brewer. That love is taking her to London.
The 17-year-old is one of more than 650 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the United States who will be representing Varsity Spirit in the world-famous London New Year’s Day Parade.
“I have always dreamed of one day making it to Europe, but being able to see this beautiful country while getting to do what I love makes it that much more fulfilling,” said Brewer.
More than 325,000 cheerleaders and dancers vied for the opportunity. Individuals invited to perform in the parade qualified for the trip after being selected as an All-American at a summer camp held by one of the Varsity Spirit camp brands.
All-Americans are selected to try out based on superior cheerleading, dancing and leadership skills at camps across the country. Only the top 10 percent of those who attend the 5,000 Varsity Spirit summer camp sessions earn the chance to march in the holiday spectacular.
Brewer studied dance for 14 years at Paula’s Dance Academy. She’s been a member of its competition team for the last nine years, is the senior dance team captain, and is a teacher at the studio.
Brewer will be among parade performers from all over the world. The theme for this year’s parade is “Showtime!” and it will celebrate the greatest shows on earth. Cheerleaders, dancers, marching bands, acrobats and more will make up the 10,000 performers representing 20 countries worldwide in the 2018 parade.
London’s New Year’s Day parade starts at 12 noon on Jan. 1 on Piccadilly, one of the capital’s most famous thoroughfares. However, there is a time difference. Tune into the live stream at 6 a.m. on Varsity TV on Varsity.com.
