Tax-free weekend starts today and the savings await.
The sales tax holiday began Friday at 12:01 a.m. and ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 31. During this time clothing, school supplies, and computers can be purchased tax-free with certain restrictions. Online items are also eligible.
Clothing items that are tax-free include general apparel that costs $100 or less per item. Items that are sold together such as shoes cannot be split up to stay beneath the $100 limit. Jewelry, handbags, and sports equipment are not exempt.
School and art supplies that are priced $100 or less per item will be included in the sales tax holiday. These items include binders, backpacks, crayons, paper, pens, pencils, rulers, and art supplies. School and art supplies that are individually priced at more than $100 will not be tax exempt.
Computers are also included in the tax-free weekend savings. Computers for personal use that are $1,500 or less will be tax-free. This also includes laptops and tablets. Items that do not qualify as tax exempt include storage media, individually priced software, printer supplies, and household appliances.
There is also an entire month of grocery sales tax suspension. The grocery sales tax suspension begins at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1 and ends at 11:59 on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Food and food ingredients are included in the grocery tax holiday. Restaurant orders will still be taxed.
The grocery tax holiday does not apply to alcoholic beverages, tobacco, candy, or dietary supplements.
