A new pavilion will be dedicated at FC Boyd Christian School Saturday at noon in memory of 5-year-old Maddox Forsythe.
Maddox was to begin Boyd in August of 2021, but sadly he passed away a month before. He was very excited to attend Boyd Christian and called it “the big school.” Maddox passed away suddenly while he and his family were on vacation in Florida.
“His unexpected passing was due to genetic abnormalities of the heart. His heart ‘current’ stopped with no possibility of resuscitation,” said his mother Wendy Forsythe. “So much is still unknown about these abnormalities so Maddox is part of a lengthy cardiac genetic study at Vanderbilt University. His DNA will continue to be researched. We felt the need to do this so that others may be helped someday.”
Wendy said after Maddox passed away, multiple people began reaching out asking how to help.
“We felt it best that all donations be made to help children attend Boyd since that’s where he wanted to go. So much money was sent from all over. Friends, family and even people we didn’t even know. I even had people from England and Europe contact me. The donations just after he passed was enough to begin a yearly scholarship and build this pavilion,” said Wendy.
This is the third year of granting the scholarship in Maddox’s memory. Wendy and her husband, Paul, thought about donating a pavilion when they realized Boyd did not have one and thought Maddox would have loved it.
“Paul and I noticed Boyd didn’t have an outside shelter and Maddox loved being outside. We thought an outdoor pavilion was a way the children could have Bible study and classes outside, lunch, etc. We thought it was a way his life could touch the lives of others, especially children,” said Wendy.
The dedication will be Saturday, Aug. 12 at noon at Boyd Christian School located at 806 Morrison St. Friends, family and everyone else Maddox touched are welcome to come together to celebrate the life of this very special little boy on Saturday.
“While I’m partial, he was truly an amazing, affectionate little boy. Always kind and compassionate. Never misbehaved and loved everyone,” said Wendy. “I’ve been told Maddox has impacted more lives in his short time than many could in a lifetime.”
