The 4-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle during a Mother’s Day family gathering on Sunday has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
“After speaking with a family member, it was confirmed the 4-year-old victim was released Monday,” said Warren County Sheriff’s Department Major Jason Walker. “The injuries didn’t seem to be anything extremely serious.”
At approximately 1 p.m. on Mother’s Day, a 2008 Audi hit the boy in the driveway of 627 John Lawson Road. He was airlifted to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
The driver, Alexandria Gale Smartt, 33, was arrested and charged with vehicular assault, reckless endangerment and reckless aggravated assault.
“When she backed up, she heard a scream and felt a bump,” said Walker. “When she got out of the vehicle, the child was underneath it, and she had backed over the child.”
Smartt was arrested and her bond set at $22,500. She was released later that same day.
