Bottle-busting argument leads to assault charge for Charles

A man faces felony assault charges after he smashed two liquor bottles, cutting himself and a woman with the glass during a domestic dispute.The suspect, Robert Joe Charles Jr., 51, is charged with aggravated assault and will face hearing Dec. 13.His charges come following a domestic dispute that began during a night of drinking.“She (the victim) said they had both been drinking and got into an argument,” said McMinnville police officer Austin Wortman, noting Charles allegedly grabbed a couple of liquor bottles. “He broke them over a sink.”The officer said he observed cuts on Charles’ hands where he was apparently cut when he broke the bottles. The suspect reportedly struck the victim after breaking the two bottles.“She had a cut on her shoulder which contained a small piece of glass from the broken bottles,” Wortman noted, adding the victim also had a red mark on her chest.The woman called 911 and left the home to get away from the attack.
