Put your car in park.
The popular Back to The Strip event won’t take place this Saturday, May 4. Organizers say due to the likelihood of rain throughout the day, the event is being postponed.
All events associated with Back to The Strip are being postponed. This includes the 5K race at 7 a.m., the car show in downtown McMinnville, and riding The Strip at night.
A new date will be announced when rescheduling is complete.
“The forecast is calling for 100 percent rain and that disrupts all our events,” said Chris Terry, one of the organizers. “People don’t like to get their nice cars out in the rain. The guy who does the timing for our 5K race doesn’t want to get his equipment out in the rain. It disrupts food vendors because they cook a lot of food in preparation for this and if it rains, no one shows up to buy it. And if we start the event and have to postpone it to a later date we have to pay our insurance policy twice for two different days. So we think the best thing to do is postpone it now before everything gets too far along.”
In addition to being a day of fun and socializing, Back to The Strip is also a huge fundraiser for Meals on Wheels. Organizer Mary Walker says the event usually generates around $30,000 for Meals on Wheels, which is dedicated to providing meals to those in need over age 60.
