Army vet Teresa Blount leads Pledge at commission meeting

A 21-year veteran of the United States Army led the Pledge of Allegiance during the August session of the Warren County Commission. 

Teresa Blount joined the Army in May 1981. She attended basic training and advanced initial training in the transportation field at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Upon completion of AIT, she was sent to Fort Benning to attend Airborne Jump School.

Blount was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division located at Fort Bragg, N.C. She was promoted through the ranks reaching Sergeant First Class during her first 12 years in service. She chose the job occupation of career counselor and attended training to earn the military occupation specialty (MOS) of 79SSP. 

Blount was deployed for five months to Desert Shield/ Desert Storm.

In 1993, Sgt. 1st Class Blount was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii. She spent three years in Hawaii making the rank of Master Sergeant as a career counselor and was placed in charge of numerous battalions and brigades working to re-enlist soldiers in the Army. 

After completing a tour in Hawaii, Blount was assigned to Fort Lee in Virginia. She was placed in charge of the Retention Program. Her final assignment was at Fort Monroe where she worked as the Senior Operations Non-commissioned Officer Career Counselor for TRADOC until her retirement in October 2002. 

She received numerous medals, awards and recognitions over the 21 years she served her country. Among just a few of those: Meritorious Service Award, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Award, National Defense Service Medal, and Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.
